What it means to me to be a “Faith-informed” Licensed Professional Counselor
I became a counselor because I believe that God desires our healing and wholeness, and that counseling can be one avenue for that healing to happen.
I am a committed member of my local church, believe in the power of prayer, and I love the Bible.
My client decides if, when and how their faith is brought into session. I have a strong understanding of many expressions of the Christian faith, and welcome clients from all backgrounds. I have worked with clients with no religious identity, those who have experienced religious abuse and don’t know where they land, and with individuals who would say faith is the most important aspect of their identity.
I have extensive training in how to implement my client’s faith into counseling sessions, and I follow the ASERVIC Competencies for Addressing Spiritual and Religious Issues in Counseling.
I recognize faith and spirituality as important parts of a client’s identity and culture. Even if you’re unsure if you want to incorporate faith in sessions, it can help to have a counselor who understands your community and cultural context, and won’t pathologize your beliefs or unique experiences.
